Lebanese cuisine is unlike any other cuisine. From as early as Ron Bakir can remember, dinner has always been the Lebanese way. On his table were always a delicious array of starches, fruits, vegetables, fresh fish and seafood, poultry and sometimes red meat. Born in Lebanon in 1977 and emigrating to Queensland, Ron Bakir is a successful real estate developer who always has close ties to his native country where his appetite is concerned. Not only does Ron enjoy Lebanese cuisine, he is also quite skilful at serving up a dish that is reminiscent of his life back in Lebanon.A large amount of garlic, olive oil, lemon juice and herbs are always accompanied in every one of his meals, which helps to bring the flavours and freshness out of every dish.
Ron Bakir also prepares Meze for his guests. A typical Mezze will consist of a variety of thirty hot and cold dishes and salads such as Tabouleh and Fattoush, dips such as Hummus, Baba ghanoush or Moutabal, Kebbeh and patties such as the Sambusacs, and stuffed grape leaves.
Then, Ron offers a range of dishes such as stews or Yakhnehs, served with meat and rice vermicelli. The Lebanese flat bread from Syria is a staple to every Lebanese meal and is used to replace the usage of the fork, making for a fuller mouthful each time it is dipped into the stew.
Finally, the most enjoyable part of any Lebanese meal for Ron Bakir is the dessert. Lebanese sweets include delicious pastries such as the popular Baklava, Lebanese oriental-flavoured ice cream and roasted nuts variety and mixes. Ron Bakir always enjoys a sweet and strong cup of coffee at this stage to complement the Baklava.
Ron Bakir’s cultural heritage will always be close to him, and the many Lebanese dishes he can serve will always remind him that he is never too far from home.
